Our Mission
Parenthesis seeks to strengthen family bonds and facilitate the
development of parents and young children by:
-
Affirming the parent/child
relationship
-
Improving parenting skills, and
-
Alleviating family isolation
Our History
Two women completing graduate work at
the Erikson Institute for Child Development in Chicago founded
Parenthesis Parent Child Center in 1980. Begun initially with the
Morning Program, the agency has grown to serve the emerging needs of
families in Oak Park and River Forest, Chicago’s near west suburbs,
and the city’s far west side. Staffed by professionals in the
fields of social work and child development, Parenthesis Parent
Child Center provides a wide range of parenting education,
counseling, and case management services focused on building strong
families.
Our Goals
-
To provide a place where parents can
come together for mutual support
-
To affirm and strengthen the parent
child relationship
-
To link families to other community
resources
-
To encourage the full development of
children
