Parenthesis is Seeking a Development Intern

Summary:

Parenthesis Parent-Child Center is seeking an energetic intern for the development and implementation of its fundraising campaigns.  Parenthesis is a non-profit organization that seeks to strengthen family bonds and facilitate the development of parents and young children by affirming the parent/child relationship, improving parenting skills, and alleviating family isolation.

Responsibilities:

The development intern will work closely with the Development Assistant and under the supervision of the Director of Development to:

  • Research major donor prospects

  • Attend development/special event meetings and contribute opinions/ideas

  • Assist with the production and execution of annual appeal donor mailings

  • Help maintain contact with current donors through the development of a seasonal newsletter: Winter, Fall, Spring, and Summer issues

  • Occasional editing of fundraising letters and other communications

  • Assisting with the production of direct mail campaigns

  • Development and maintenance of the development calendar

  • On-site management of fundraising events

  • Assist with day-to-day management of Access database and maintain donor records

  • General administrative assistance to the Director of Development and the Development Assistant

Qualifications:

Candidate should have an interest in non-profit work, be hard working, have a positive attitude, and a willingness to be a team player.  Students should be an undergraduate junior or senior in a program of Communications, Marketing, Public Relations, Advertising, English, Political Science, or History preferred.  Skills should also include:

  • Strong interpersonal communication skills including writing, editing, research, and organizational skills

  • Computer proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, and Internet Research

  • Knowledge of Access database management

  • Effective time management skills to meet deadlines

  • High attention to detail

  • Ability to work in the office at least 10 hours per week for a period of three to six months
